What Happens During Heat Treatment to Kill Bedbugs?

As unsanitary as a bed bug infestation sounds, it can occur anywhere – even 5-star hotels. Bed bugs can spread relatively quickly, which is why you’ll want to get rid of them as soon as you spot them – not to mention that they also feed on blood, which means they’ll bite you during the night! Fortunately, there are many ways to treat a bed bug infestation, but the best way to get rid of your bed bug problem is by using heat remediation, also known as heat treatment.

Heat Treatment to Kill BedbugsWhy is heat treatment a superior way to remove bed bugs?

Using rubbing alcohol or bleach are effective ways to kill bed bugs – but you’re not going to get all of them. When you apply rubbing alcohol or bleach to an area affected by bed bugs, they’ll usually just scatter to another location. Killing one or two isn’t going to make much difference. You can also have your home sprayed for bed bugs. This can kill the bed bugs, but it won’t kill their eggs. Bed bugs can lay hundreds of eggs over their lifetime, which means that you’ll have to deal with yet another bed bug infestation soon enough. These treatments can be effective, but they won’t deal with the problem over the long term.

How does heat treatment kill bed bugs?

Heat treatment is a way to eliminate your bed bug problem without the use of chemicals, making it a much more eco-friendly alternative. Large thermal remediation units, which are basically commercial heaters, will be placed around your home in order to turn the space into what’s basically a giant oven. The area that is infested with bed bugs will be heated to a minimum of 130 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the temperature at which bed bugs will die. The heat will penetrate every part of the space, from the air to the furniture to your bedding, leaving the bed bugs with no place to hide. Because of the intense heat, you’ll want to make sure you clear your family and pets out of the home during the heat treatment process.

In addition to killing off all of the bed bugs, the extreme heat will also kill their eggs, which means you won’t have to worry about a secondary infestation. If you have bed bug problems in more than one room, you’ll want to have all affected areas treated with heat remediation immediately. Because the intense heat will kill all bed bugs relatively quickly, they’ll have no time to escape the area and find refuge in another part of your home. In fact, your home could be bed bug-free within 24 hours!

While there are a number of treatments that can kill bed bugs, no treatment is as effective as heat remediation, which kills both bed bugs and their eggs, nullifying the chance of a second infestation.
